This is how some notorious people scam the payphone system, to get a free call. But let me say this outright, I am not giving you this information in order for you to act it out. It's against the law, and you may be prosecuted. But here, I would just like to show you how these people make this scam, for learning and information purposes only.
First of all, this is an easy way to get quick messages to someone from a payphone either LD or when you don't have change to make a call. It works best using 1-800-collect. Some other carriers will also work, assuming they are computerized routing of the collect call.
1. They call 1-800-collect (or other carrier). They enter the # of the recipient of the message when prompted.
2. When they are asked to say their name, they have about *6* seconds to record their message. Examples include:
"It's Martin, call me at 555-1212"
"My plane will get in at 6:55 pm, Terminal A, American Airlines"
"Dad, come pick me up at the Gym doors aof the school."
3. Allow the receiving party to reject the call. They will receive the message, and can hang up. But the one calling must stay on the line until they are told that their call has been refused. That will ensure that the other end heard their message. Also, the "name" will be repeated twice, so if there is a date or phone number in it, the receiving party will hear it a second time if they miss it.
What a smart dummy!
